Miller Ecological Services Overview

Miller Ecological Consultants, Inc. (MEC) specializes in full service consulting in the following areas:  instream flow analysis (1-D and 2-D), fish and aquatic ecosystem assessments,  stream water temperature modeling, and ecological modeling.  With these specialties, we can provide complete regulatory and permitting solutions or assist larger teams on scientifically based litigation support.  At MEC, it is important that we provide personalized, scientifically rigorous products to our clients.

Fish and Aquatic Services Instream Water Temperature Modeling

We specialize in IFIM studies and have conducted complex analysis on multi-river networks to develop instream flow recommendations.  As leaders in 1-D and 2-D modeling, we have developed software that allows seamless integration of 2-D hydraulic modeling outputs with a GIS framework for a visual representation of data for decision makers.

Miller Ecological Consultants, Inc. provides services for standard fishery techniques such as population estimates, fishery harvest, stream inventories, fish salvage, mechanical removal, and analysis of management alternatives.  We also include other components of aquatic systems such as macroinvertebrates, periphyton and water quality as part of the overall project or general evaluations of stream health.

Miller Ecological Consultants, Inc. has extensive experience in instream water temperature monitoring and modeling.  We have conducted thermal modeling on both warm-water and cold-water stream systems for evaluations of the affect of proposed reservoir projects on instream water temperatures, the affects of land-use practices on instream water temperatures and the analysis of alternative reservoir operating regimes on instream water temperatures.

Ecological models are an effective tool for simulation of complex aquatic systems.  MEC has used this approach to evaluate both physical and biological interrelationships to determining population carrying capacity estimates, assessing the relative importance and quantifying trophic level linkages, and quantifying impacts of land-use practices on water quality and biological components on endangered species.

Miller Ecological Consultants provides complete solutions for projects requiring National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Compliance.  We also provide specific products for permitting including Section 7 Consultations, Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Biological Assessments (BA), Environmental Assessments (EA)  Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Relicensing.

Miller Ecological personnel are recognized as experts in aquatic ecology and instream flow.  We can provide expert witness, supportive studies or review in litigation cases.
